Greg Stratis Elected Chairman of National Precast Concrete Association
Boston, MA - Greg Stratis has been elected as the National Precast Concrete Association’s Chairman of the Board. Stratis began his one-year term on October 1st at NPCA’s 51st Annual Convention in Austin, Texas, after serving on the board since 2011. Earlier this year, Stratis assumed his newly-appointed role as President of Shea Concrete Products headquartered in Wilmington, Massachusetts.

Shea Concrete Provides Bases for Ai Weiwei Sculptures on Greenway
BOSTON, MA — Shea Concrete has partnered with the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy to provide 12 concrete rings to serve as bases for sculptures produced by internationally acclaimed Chinese artist, Ai Weiwei.
"We're proud that Shea products could play a role in an important art installation," said Greg Stratis of Shea Concrete Products.
The installation, named “Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads,” is based on the 12 animals that form the Chinese zodiac. Each bronze visage stands about ten feet tall, and can weigh up to as much as 2,000 pounds.

Shea Professional Development Day Draws Record Attendance
BEDFORD, NH — Over 75 members of the precast concrete and engineering industries met in Bedford, New Hampshire, for the Professional Development Day by Shea Concrete Products.
Attendees earned six Personal Development Hours over the course of the all-day seminar. They heard presentations given by numerous industry experts. The presentations’ topics ranged from the practical applications of products like GeoFoam, to the use of 3D printers in creating prototypes and visual aids for engineers.

Shea Expands Product Lines
The 23-acre Nottingham plant was originally owned and operated by New England Precast. Shea Concrete acquired the company in 1999 – along with the employees and locations in Amesbury, MA and Nottingham, NH. Shea closed the 50x100-foot Nottingham plant in 2008 after the economy faltered. Increased demand for the company’s products coupled with the improvement of the economy created the need for another production plant.

Shea Concrete Products Delivers Precast Floating Docks to Lynn’s Seaport Landing Marina in Lynn, MA
Upgrades to the Seaport Landing Marina began last November, as an attempt to spur redevelopment in the area. Located just 10 miles North of Boston, the marina is capable of accommodating 65 vessels, with boats up to 65ft in length. The Seaport Landing Marina has been operated by the city of Lynn for 25 years.

Shea Concrete Products recently manufactured and installed its largest Easi-Span precast building, a 40’x80’x10’ locker room, for Essex Agricultural and Technical High School. Simultaneously, a 24’x62’x9’ Easi-Set restroom and concession building was also constructed on the same site. Both structures are to be used for the school’s athletic program.

Shea Re-Opens Nottingham Plant
Shea Concrete Products has re-opened the doors to its fourth precast concrete production plant after closing it in June 2008 for economic reasons. The 50x100-foot plant, up and running earlier this month, now employs its newly-hired Operations Manager, Jerry Mailloux.
Mailloux joins Shea Concrete after 21 years at his previous precast concrete employer and will oversee operations for a plant that specializes in producing smaller precast products. These products include utility, stormwater and septic products.

Arthur Returns to Mass Maritime
On Tuesday, March 12th, Shea Concrete Products of Wilmington, MA rescued the Massachusetts Maritime softball team and installed a brand new set of precast concrete dugouts, two days before the Buccaneers’ Opening Day. The original, 25-year-old wooden dugouts were destroyed last November, during the nor’easter storm “Athena”. Two months later, Shea Concrete project manager and Mass Maritime alumnus, Arthur Bougoulas, began production on the project.

And for good reason. Burns and the rest of Shea Concrete Products has a leg up on the precast concrete industry thanks to International Coding Technologies (ICT) and its QC tracking system. The system tracks QC using scanners and ICT’s “Cast-A-Code™” radio frequency identification tags (RFID). The Cast-A-Code™ RFID tags were first developed in 2006-07 and built to electronically store information while the tag is embedded in the object. It transfers data with the focus of automatically identifying and tracking the object. Unlike barcodes, these tags are ruggedized and designed to sustain heavy duty environments.

Bob Flores Celebrates 46 Years at Shea Concrete
46-year employee Bob Flores almost never got his start at Shea Concrete Products. He approached company founder Ernie Shea about a job in 1967 and was hired, although Shea didn't think much about his new addition. “I came home after my first day and I was covered in rust, form oil, and concrete,” said Flores, the company’s general manager. “And I said, ‘You know what? I think Ernie might be right, I might not last more than a week.’ And here I am, 46 years later.”
