SHEA CONCRETE EARNS A 1ST-PLACE NPCA “BEST PRACTICES AWARD” FOR COMMITMENTS TO SUSTAINABILITY

AMESBURY, MA—Industry leaders strive for innovation. Since 1965, The National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA) has recognized the importance of advancement and transformation to keep the precast concrete industry moving forward. To inspire businesses and precast concrete professionals to consistently raise the bar and pave the way for better, more efficient processes, the NPCA launched its Best Practices Award. The honor celebrates precast concrete practices that prioritize innovation, sustainability, safety, and efficiency.

This year, Shea Concrete Products received a 1st-Place NPCA Best Practices Award at the association’s annual “The Precast Show” conference for achievements in sustainability-focused development of their headquarters facility.

The award comes after the New England precast concrete manufacturer’s decades-long journey to deliver a workplace that serves the environment, employees, customers, and the community. After purchasing the Amesbury, MA facility in 1999, the leaders at Shea Concrete saw the space’s potential as a headquarters facility with environmentally friendly, cost-efficient, comfortable, and energy-saving features.

Today the state-of-the-art facility stands as a celebrated example of green building design and construction practices. From minimal water usage to generating 75% of total electricity usage from solar power, the Amesbury facility enables Shea Concrete to conserve resources, reduce overall operating costs, and empower its team members with a safe, comfortable, and professional atmosphere.

Shea Concrete’s NPCA Best Practices Award is the second sustainability honor the manufacturer has recently received. The sustainable design and production efforts also earned the headquarters facility a Gold Certification from the USGBC Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) program.

“We have been working towards sustainable practices for many years and are incredibly honored to be recognized by fellow leaders in the precast concrete industry,” said Greg Stratis (President at Shea Concrete). “But even after receiving these awards, resting on our laurels is not part of the plan. We’re maintaining the momentum we’ve built so far by identifying new opportunities for improvement at all of our facilities in Massachusetts & New Hampshire.”

Precast concrete professionals interested in exploring what the facility has to offer are encouraged to participate in one of Shea Concrete’s upcoming Technical Engineering Seminars, a free educational opportunity hosted at their Amesbury facility.
