SHEA CONCRETE PROVIDES BASES FOR AI WEIWEI SCULPTURES ON GREENWAY

May 31, 2016 / News & Events

BOSTON, MA — Shea Concrete has partnered with the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy to provide 12 concrete rings to serve as bases for sculptures produced by internationally acclaimed Chinese artist, Ai Weiwei.

“We’re proud that Shea products could play a role in an important art installation,” said Greg Stratis of Shea Concrete Products.

The installation, named “Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads,” is based on the 12 animals that form the Chinese zodiac. Each bronze visage stands about ten feet tall, and can weigh up to as much as 2,000 pounds.

Ai Weiwei is one of China’s most prolific and provocative artists, and his work has been featured across the world.

“We appreciate Shea Concrete’s role in helping us bring Ai Weiwei’s awe-inspiring work to The Greenway,” said Lucas Cowan, Public Art Curator at the Greenway Conservancy. “The sculpture has only been up a matter of days and yet it’s already clear the public will enjoy experiencing this piece throughout the spring and summer.”

The installation is free and open to the public and will be on display on The Greenway until October 21, 2016.
