SHEA CONCRETE PRODUCTS HOSTS 4TH TECHNICAL ENGINEERING SEMINAR WITH RECORD ATTENDANCE

October 23, 2018 / News & Events

On September 18th, Shea Concrete Products of Amesbury, MA hosted a record crowd in the training room of their new precast concrete headquarters on Haverhill Road for the fourth of their series of 2018 Technical Engineering Seminars.

Drawing a crowd of sixty-eight (68) construction, engineering, and precast professionals, Shea Concrete’s September seminar offered a full-day of technical learning from a wide-range of industry-leading speakers.

These sessions included opening remarks from Shea Concrete President Greg Stratis, information on manufacturing high-quality/watertight precast structures from NPCA’s Claude Goguen, a presentation on watertight connection best practices using Trelleborg products by Director of Sales Tim Sparrow, a presentation from ConSeal Concrete Sealants Sam Lines on precast concrete structure watertight integrity, and a deep dive into post-installation testing best practices with Ed Pennypacker of JEPCO Sales.

“I’ve had the opportunity to attend and present at two seminars by Shea Concrete, and they’ve both been excellent.  What strikes me the most is how interested and content the attendees are.  I’ve spoken too many who have told me they found the sessions informative and they have learned a lot about the precast industry.  A few were already asking when the next event was scheduled.  Overall, I have found the seminars to be very well organized, and managed.  The topic selection for the sessions have been very interesting and generate a lot of interaction with attendees.  Having people directing guests on where to park, having a table full of take-aways near the classroom, and a well-run plant tour are just some of the details that contribute to the success of these events.  Greg, Hugh and other Shea Concrete personnel exude pride and passion about their operation and that enhances confidence on the part of the attendees” – Claude Goguen, PE (Director of Technical Education and Outreach – National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA))

Shea Concrete also offered guests a tour of their state-of-art precast concrete manufacturing facility and headquarters. The new headquarters, which opened in January 2018, was designed with LEED-certification in-mind by utilizing a wide range of sustainable materials and practices, including a roof-mounted solar panel array, sustainable precast concrete construction, brownfield and wastewater considerations, and steps to minimize construction waste throughout the construction process.

This event was offered by Shea Concrete at no cost to attendees, who also received 5-Professional Development Hours (PDH’s) and 6-Credit Hours from NHDES for Designers & Installers Licenses. Due to the interest in attending this event, spaces filled up quickly and demand for future sessions remains high among industry professionals.

“The entire seminar including the presentation content, speakers, venue, and manufacturing plant tour was very well done.  The approval from the NHDES Subsurface Bureau for the 6-credit hours as well as the ability to submit this for NH PE PDH’s was important, however I likely would have attended even without these credits.  Shea Concrete Products has set a high standard for educational seminars and I look forward to attending in the future” – Gerard R. Blanchette, P.E., NCEES, LEED AP (Principal & Senior Vice President – The H.L. Turner Group Inc.)

Shea Concrete will be hosting their fifth Technical Engineering Seminar on November 14, which will include a detailed look at the ReCon Retaining Wall System, an installation demonstration, and a tour of the headquarters and manufacturing plant facility.

Shea Concrete Products would like to thank all speakers and attendees for making the fourth 2018 Technical Engineering Seminar at the new headquarters a success, and looks forward to hosting more successful seminars for years to come!
